Comprehensive Investigating on the Aerodynamic Influences of the Wheel Contact Patch

Computational fluid dynamics is implemented to investigate the influence of the wheel contact patch on the global car aerodynamics. Two main aspects of the problem are the contact step and patch shape. Three important parameters: step height, cut angle, and tire tread shape are taken into consideration. For validations of the numerical results, the experimental data are also considered. The obt...

Multiprocessing On Supercomputers for Computational Aerodynamics

Very little use is made of multiple processors available on current supercomputers (computers with a theoretical peak performance capability equal to 100 MFLOPS or more) in computational aerodynamics to significantly improve turnaround time. The productivity of a computer user is directly related to this turnaround time. In a timesharing environment, the improvement in this speed is achieved wh...

Computational aerodynamics: Advances and challenges

Computational aerodynamics, which complement more expensive empirical approaches, are critical for developing aerospace vehicles. During the past three decades, computational aerodynamics capability has improved remarkably, following advances in computer hardware and algorithm development. However, most of the fundamental computational capability realised in recent applications is derived from ...

Fifty Years of Aerodynamics: Successes, Challenges, and Opportunities

This paper presents a review of developments in aerodynamics during the last 50 years. Progress in aerodynamic design, theoretical aerodynamics, wind tunnel testing, and especially computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is discussed. Where appropriate, applications to aircraft design are presented, as are new aircraft concepts. Topics of Canadian interest are presented and the paper includes severa...

Computational Models and Resource Allocation for Supercomputers

I Supercomputers are capable of providing tremendous computational power, but must be carefully programmed to take advantage of that power. There are several different architectures used in supercomputers, with differing computational models. These different models present a variety of resource allocation problems that must be solved. The computational needs of a program must be cast in terms o...
